Think It Over…

The Union Movie Trailer
"Why use up the forests which were centuries in the making and the mines which required ages to lay down, if we can get the equivalent of forest and mineral products in the annual growth of the hemp fields?" - Henry Ford quote on Marijuana I've been a pot smoker for many years. Take it or leave it, it's the truth. I won't get into the whys, as I would assume that if you don't already know why one would choose to smoke pot, there is not an explanation in the world that would suffice. On a personal level, marijuana has enhanced my already beautiful life but from a political stand point, marijuana has become an issue that I am passionate about. Having known many people throughout my life who have suffered from cancer and the horrific treatments that accompany it, I have seen first hand, the benefits of medicinal marijuana. I have also seen the ravaging affects of more traditional medicines. Medicines which cost untold numbers of people the kind of money we can barely fathom. The government and the pharmaceutical companies are quite literally making a killing off of promoting the myth that marijuana is a dangerous gateway drug that will lead to hard core drug use. I know a lot of pot smokers, of all ages. All of them, each and every one of them, has a good job, a good life, and passion. None of them are hard core drug addicts. I myself hold down a forty hour a week nine to five, go to school 20 hours a week and contribute to this magazine amongst other things. My numbers do not compute with those of our government. This does not even address the issue of hemp. Now, while I have a fundamental issue with hemp necklaces and the like, I cannot deny that hemp is an extremely valuable, sustainable and almost miraculous fiber. It is even edible! Some might argue that hemp is an immeasurably important resource for helping to save and heal our planet. One more reason for the government to deny it and make it that much more difficult to cultivate and produce. I could go on and on, but will let the creators of The Union: The Business Behind Getting High, do it for me. Though they are our brothers to the North, these Canadian film-makers bring to light the importance of cannabis as a medicinal drug, a fiber of the future and as a government weapon to imprison even more people. Regardless of your personal relationship or views on marijuana, I encourage you to see this film and to think. Open your mind and begin to question what you have been fed. Begin to question your government and their desires for control and power verses your best interest. We must align ourselves on the side of what is best for ourselves, our country, our world and the environment. Think outside the box people! The time is now. This is a much bigger issue than whether or not some hippies should be allowed to get high. This is about our freedoms and our rights to a healthy and sustainable future. “Marijuana is the finest anti-nausea medication known to science, and our leaders have lied about this consistently. [Arresting people for] medical marijuana is the most hideous example of government interference in the private lives of individuals. It's an outrage within an outrage within an outrage.” - Peter McWilliams Peace.
