Eating local means making food that's seasonal

I've started to become acutely aware of what foods are ripe and what foods aren't when I'm grocery shopping. Biting into a hard piece of fruit, that has no flavor is one of the biggest disappointments of a good trip to grocery. It's also something that has is top of mind while researching what to plant in my garden. More importantly when the thought of making sure my dollars stay in the city and community it has hit me that purchases made at local retailers are only as good as where they were grown. This is not a cry for an ultimatum of local or nothing but it is a plea to look into and pay attention to where your dollar is going. In an effort to help we've found a by state list of seasonal fruit and vegetables found on About.com. We hope this will provide you with a good start to spend more of your money locally.
