What the 4 One Funk DJs have done with their 4 One Funktion party is nothing short of phenomenal. Where turntablism left off these Bay Area djs have picked up and introduced music theory, live production, and interpolated live analogue instrumentation. Not to worry, there’s a lot of blending and scratching going down too. 2003 SF DMC Champion Teeko Shimon, Max Kane, and Malaguti put it down this Saturday at the Elbo Room with LA’s funky worm Exile, best known for work with Aloe Blacc (Emanon), Blu (Blu & Exile), and his solo release Exile : Radio. He’ll be doing what he does best, slaying the MPC (see below). San Francisco’s DJ Sake 1 will also be letting go on the 1s and 2s for your listening pleasure. This will be an outrageous show. Instead of boring you with more words, let’s get into these videos so you can get an idea of what’s really going down at the 4OneFunktion this Saturday. And here’s a dope zip of instrumentals from F.A.M.E. – Truthpics >> Download

Seth, you should check out LoveTech this weekend in SF… Preshish Moments and Nonagon drop some sick live electronic beats like Exile up there.
BTW, does Exile have anything to do with Tim Exile? Or just a common name?
KC – Never heard him referred to as Tim, so I’d say no. Been on his ish for a few years now. I’ll look into those groups. Busy all weekend, so I won’t make it to LoveTech but thanks for the heads up!
Presish Moments you can peep for a sec on the LoveTech vid I posted earlier this week: http://legendmag.net/2010/01/25/lovetech-sf-1-year-anniversary/
Nonagon we featured quite a while ago (mellow album, but his live sets are dope!): http://legendmag.net/2009/03/30/nonagon-legendmag25/
And not to diminish the dudes in this post (including Exile), but take a second to peep this Beadyman/Tim Exile collab on YouTube. (Beadyman is the beatbox artist and Tim’s on the crazy home-grown sampler electronics):

Spoke to Teeko about working on Mark Ronson’s new album, F.A.M.E. & Jimi James went all out, and Exile was out of control. If you can make it to a 4OneFunktion, you will be pleased to say the least.
