Logo Power
Ah, corporate logo power-culture run amock!

I just finished reading a long, fantastic interview with tattooer Johnny Di Donna, as posted on BMEzine. They talk about the history of tattooing, good and bad pieces, politics, corporate TV tattoo shows, and creating Art with a capital “A”… (among many other topics).
In addition, there is a massive sampling of his fantastic artwork throughout.
A great read if you are considering getting a tattoo, for back-history on the ancient art— and to understand the difference between a good Artist and another back-alley, scratcher shop.
“Where can I find indie music online?” “Where’s the good stuff?” “I would support it if I knew where it was.” Yea we’ve heard you guys a million times saying this. We have indie radar around this piece and we’re sick of hearing it. Yea there’s itunes (hello not so indie) but we’ve found a couple of people who are doing their thing in their own way and so here ya go.
Bleep.com has been a major source of my online music shopping experience for a while and hopefully you’ll make it part of yours. Lots of great music it’s that simple.
kc! Shot me the video and I was concerned about putting it out because Jimmy Iovine is the furthest from indie as you can get, but I think it’s important that we all understand how guys like him think. He’s got alot of good knowledge for sure.

Unfortunately, this is not good news for the company, but however for us consumers… it is quite a deal!
The company who brought you SmartEnergy drinks (such as Nuclear Waste Antidote and SmartPower) couldn’t get a national distribution deal and thus and ceasing their drink business. This means that they have mucho energy drinks to sell the rock bottom prices of $22.50 per case! (way under wholesale costs).
This is a special limited offer which will only be available in the Bay Area and online until supplies run out, so get ‘em while you can!

It’s vote year again people. No it’s not Super Tuesday and there are no super delegates to filter your vote. It’s the Plug Awards! All your favorite bands are in one place getting props from their own. Make sure you visitthe Plug Award site and get your vote on.
So we are glad to hear that Amplive (of the bay area rap duo Zion I) got to put out his remixe tracks of the last Radiohead album Rainbows. After “Radiogate” we didn’t think we’d get to hear them in our life time. Before you download read up on “Radiogate” below.
“After a cease & desist put the breaks on Amplive’s Radiohead In Rainbows remix project, the online music community reasonably wondered if the tracks would ever see the light of day. Well, here they are.
While the Oakland producer/DJ acknowledges that he probably should have contacted Radiohead (who were not involved in the project) to seek approval prior to making his interpretations publically available, an agreement has been reached between all involved parties and Amplive has been granted permission to release Rainydayz Remixes for free to the general public. Effective immediately, the eight-track record is available here.
Rainydayz Remixes is composed exclusively of source material pulled from In Rainbows, re-envisioned by Amplive and complimented by vocal work from Too $hort, MC Zumbi of Zion I, Chali2na of Jurassic 5, Codany Holiday, and Del The Funky Homosapien.”
We love you so we went and got some music from our dj buddies (and other top secret locations). Enjoy’m while they’re here.

On the path to testing out this “living indie” thing more and more, I did away with my car. This isn’t an easy thing to do, esepcially while living in Cali. So what have I found out so far? Well, most times I don’t really need a car. It’s a different ball game when you’re in a city with decent or better public transit. Why not keep your monthy car note and insurance note in you pocket? Especially when there’s City Car Share and Zip Car!
Share a car with your Bay Area Neighbors. Small monthly fees, gas paid for and no insurance to deal with. So I haven’t tried it yet but I’ll be reporting back with you in a couple weeks after I try this out for a bit.
Wish me luck on the application process (I think I’m a good driver).
Hey everyone, time to dig in your pockets and give what you can. That same way you hear NPR on the radio trying to gather support for a show, that’s what Sol Collective is doing. Community organizations need comunnity support. Here’s the word from the Sol Collective Art Gallery.
“Sol Collective needs your help! As many of you may know, the Sol Collective is run by a volunteer staff. We provide arts and cultural programming for the community as well as youth classes and events, both on site and in the community. Those of you who attend our events know, they are usually free or on a donation basis. We do a lot of events, put time and energy into them, while holding down other jobs. Those other jobs have been paying the rent for the space. Unfortunately we have come to a point where we can no longer do this without community support. We may be closing our doors in a few months if we do not raise funds. Donations are tax deductible. If all of our friends on my space donated $10-20 dollars, it could keep our doors open for over a year! If you support what we do,please donate ,we would like to continue to serve the community..LOve Please check out our website too! www.solcollective.com”

Just when you thought Mark Ronson (and his new grammy’s) were going to be dead to us all we find hope that he will stay faithful. A project that no one has heard much about is available for free download. Mark Ronson has teamed up with Rhymefest to make a Micheal Jackson Tribute album, Man in the Mirror. This one might not be around long as they didn’t bother to clear it through Mikes people. We’ll see how long it lasts.

So you’re wondering how to break the ice huh? Nothing to do on valentines? Go and have a pillow fight! Ok, so they don’t happen often enough (even in a city as great as SF), but when they do, they are not to be missed. The 3rd Annual Valentines Day Pillow fight was the coolest storm of feathers I’ve ever seen.
Thanks to my date for being a sport even though her past experience in pillow fights with her six brothers made this something that could’ve blown up in my face as a start to the date, she was a sport. The fun was undeniable though. Costumes, big pillows, tons of passers by asking “why everyone has a pillow in their hands”, and little angry guys swinging for the fences (but at your head).
Next time this comes around in your city make sure you save up for a feather pillow and bring the pain. Better yet, bring a date!
So, a friend told me about this site and I couldn’t help but go visit. She told me about how she was cracking up all day and thought I should give it a gander. So what did I do, I took a gander and the laughs just don’t stop. In good taste I should say that the person writing seems to be white. It’s not a sight bashing white people but hey if you can’t laugh at yourself you probably shouldn’t be visiting funny sites anyway. Here’s a snippet.

In the olden days of white culture, people used to look up to Kings and Princes. These were the people that they adored, and every night they wished and hoped that somehow they could wake up and be just like them. But with Royal Families crumbling, that role has been filled by one man: Mos Def.
He is everything that white people dream about: authentic (”he’s from Brooklyn!”), funny (”he was on Chapelle show!”), artistic (have you heard “Black on Both Sides?”), an actor (”he’s in the new Gondry film!”) and not white (”I don’t see race”).
Yo I couldn’t skip sharing this with everyone. It’s pretty old remix of Come Close by Common and Mary J Blige done by Nicolay.
Nicolay and Kay’s new album drop next week and our interview with Nicolay will be dropping in the new issue of LEGENDmag. Yup we’re keeping it coming for sure.
