If you haven’t gone at this point then you’re just socially behind the art scene curve. And hey that’s ok that’s what we’re here for right. Well, it’s time to hit up Suite Jesus and the Veni, Vidi, Vici parties put on by ArtNowSF. Joe has been putting these events on for the better part of the year and he’s showing no sign of slowing down. They’re always top notch art, great dj’s, and beautiful people to match what’s on the walls. Don’t believe huh? Check it for your self (below) and we’ll see you at the next show.

Social networking for the food and beverage industry is definately long over due. Sonny Mayugba form publisher and Tower Records Exec. founded Biteclub as a way to help foodies and industry people alike stay in tune.
Whether you’re trying to find the perfect drink recipe or the perfect bartending job, Biteclub.com is you’re way in.
The Goorin Bros. x Onitsuka Tiger x Shoebix release party was a great throwdown. There’s no party like a boutique party now days and the dino store Shoebiz location was no exception. The energy was pretty incredible and music was dope too (props to the dj). Thanks to Mike Shay for the invite and we can’t wait for the next one.
How many times have you seen a politician or government official of the highest regard speak their mind from their gut, and with truly independent ideas regardless of their consequence? Maybe we could use more history in our quest for independence.
Shooting your own fantasy/adventure film in the backyard? Need some brilliant movie effects on a shoestring budget? Well Indy Mogul’s got your back covered! This episode shows the melting face effect from classic Indiana Jones!!
For more FX hints from Indy Mogul, check their YouTube site. (Thanks Fake Steve!)
Come, drink, eat, be merry! Tonight at the Dinosaur shoebiz store on Haight come and see the new hat, show combo you won’t be able to resist.

The Long Now Foundation held another of it’s monthly lectures last night. Their guest speaker, Iqbal Quadir, spoke about how technology (specifically cellular-based) is empowering 40 million of the poorest Bangladeshi people to communicate, and how decentralized systems such as this are good for everyone involved.
Some very radical ideas presented (especially since the entire project started in 1994). But further justifying the role of independent business in empowering the people of the world!
Here is video from the TED conference, where Mr. Quadir gives a similar lecture to what was presented last night.

All you need now days is an internet connection! Yup, if you were born in ‘76 or before and you’re a person who has decided to not tune in to the interweb revolution that has been going on for years now… WAKE UP BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!
ROKU is a privately held company that has been trying to wake up out of your comma since 2002. They are best known for their internet radio player, the Sound Bridge. Well, now they’ve upped the anty making a streaming moview player for Netflix. Hook the box up, pick a movie and start watching.
One of the main features here is that the movies aren’t downloaded, they streamed so that you can watch the movies instantly. Select movies right from your tv screen, watch in HD, and no extra fees from Netflix. Wake up people, the matrix has us all!
You Don’t Know What You’re Getting Yourself Into is the debut album from DIOYY. I’ve been listening to this album quite a bit recently. A few tracks on the album are a little pop-sounding for my taste (like “Epic Last Song”), but tracks like “With a Heavy Heart”, “We Are Rockstars”, and “Let’s Make Out” definitely make the album worth-while. I can’t wait to check out Does It Offend You, Yeah? on July 30, when they open for Bloc Party at the Fillmore…
DIOYY on Channel 4 performing “We Are Rockstars”
DIOYY @ SXSW (”Battle Royale”)
Last year in September I had the calling. It was weird, I was on the couch being an independent couch potato and something told me to get up and go to Treasure Island (SF). A bus ride and friend meet-up later, I found myself doing the danga dang with M.I.A.; going crazy to the sounds of Flostrodomus; and loving the coin-up old school arcade tent. A rare couch potato moment this year reminded me to mark my calender for the Treasure Island Music Festival, September 20th and 21st.
If you have ANY doubts at all let me show you what you missed…!

We’ve all felt like this guy before. We found this ad clip courtesy Amber. Watch it and then watch it again!
LEGENDmag TV headed out to cover the Maker Faire and ran into our old friend Ernie, from littleyellowdifferent.com! Come with us on a fantastic journey through the seemingly neverending exhibit halls, race tracks, and proving grounds and explore the Maker Faire!!
UPDATE: Added some photos from the event and a little more about the video.

PS: In case you were wondering about that amazing techno giraffe at the end of the episode (I fell in love with it and had to get it in the video), his name is Russell and he is an electric giraffe with a wonderful story. Go check out the website for more info and if anyone wants to build me one, I would forever be indebted!
A special thank you to all the wonderful people we met and spoke with during the event… like our new friends working on Within Reach Movie! Keep up all the hard work we will see you all next year again at Maker Faire 2009!!!!
It’s been brewing in alot of people for a long time. At this point everyone has probably felt some type of disillusionment with their party even if it’s the green party. Well, I’m not sure yet if this is the answer but I’m am sure that it’s a step in the right direction. Being an independent voter to me says that I’m going to vote my unconscious and never out of obligation to race, creed, party, group, or affiliation. What do you think? Take a look.
In case you’re not that into “sampling” but always wanted to know exactly how someone can take music that’s not their’s and make it sound like something original, here you go. the ARE is one of our independent fav’s. Part of the team that has brought you rappersiknow.com these guys are definitely purveyors of good music.
I’ve always been of the mindset that instruments trump sampling and electronics every time (remnants of an old band nerd or ‘the truth’ you decide) but slowly people are bringing me around to the talent it takes to hear a new composition within and existing piece of work. All this while making sure there’s no notable reference to the original work. Don’t take my word for it though. Watch for yourself.
