Buy-in has bee fairly hard to come by for me when it comes purchasing a home. Everything I’ve learned about buying a home has just never made sense to me unless you are looking to use the house as an investment or you plan for that home to be your biggest asset.
See the thing for me is that no one ever really talks to a family about how long 30 years of payments really is, and how those mortgage notes don’t include maintenance and energy costs you might not incur otherwise.
As an investment property I’ve always wanted a home. But in this case I would be using the house as stock, or high yield account, or anything else where I could claim more assets. Not something that would hold a family unit, nurture kids, and foster community.
Well with Bluhomes new addition to the home market, I can buy-in to buying a home as a product because to purchasing as they’ve reduced the cost, building time, and long range expenses.
We’ve been preaching the gospel about this great design company Jellio for some time now ( Jellio feature LEGENDmag 17). We love how they incorporate all of those wonderful ideas from childhood (and for some adult hood) into really great pieces for your home. Well they’re at it again and we have a first look for you.
Here are some descriptions of their new products:
The Boogie Man Rug is our tribute to night time ghouls everywhere. Place it under your child’s bed and they’re sure to have the coolest room on the block.
Gummi Glasses, with stems made of the same rubber material as our GummiLights, are meant to look like little ice cream cones, and are perfect for ice cream sundaes or really fun cocktails.
And the Stingray Vase is sure to bring back memories of every wheelie you ever popped. Hand-sculpted to resemble a handlebar grip from those classic bikes, this 14″ tall beauty looks great on any shelf, and comes with its own removable streamers!
I’ll look up something when I have to, but I prefer getting my information directly from an expert. Someone who immerses themselves in the topic and chooses to painstakingly film, edit, design, press, and post a video of the information instead.
Bringing cinema quality cameras to those of us not named Lucas, Spielberg, or Scorsese, RED first suprised us with the ONE. It shoots film-like, movie lot quality for just over $17k! Compared to rival six-figure rigs, ONE made the major league stuff accessible to the minors. Once again they’re knocking down the barriers of price, size, and quality with SCARLET.
It’s a 3K (read: better than 1080p) camera that fits in the palm of your hand for less than $3,000! Holy [insert appropiate explitive]! This means that any ol’ Nick Newbie has access to some cutting edge ish? Only from the indies, baby!
After four years of dominating the game with tee shirts, Married to the Mob is finally making their debut ready to wear collection for Fall. Now they are very happy to present their full Fall collection consisting of denim, outerwear, fitted hats, leggings, hoodies and tees. The MOB Fall 2008 Collection is up for sale and can be peeped on the MOB website mttmnyc.com
For those who can’t handle dressing themselves… the internet wizards bring us Please Dress Me! An all-in-one-place website for finding great tee’s on the cheap and easy.
It’s always great to see someone get it. You know, a new product that actully seems like they got it right, or close. We felt that way when we saw the iphone, (whether or not you like it) you had to say wow finally I don’t won’t need all these stupid gadgets and it looks cool too? Now enter the Holeder Earphones.
The phones were designed by Yoonsang Kim and are a great example of people making things that are both functional and useful. We have no idea when they’ll hit the market but we can’t wait. The design is said to fit well in the ear (shown below), sound great, and prevent bacteria growth because of it’s shape, not that I’ve been to worried about my ear jammies lately.
We struggle with it everyday. Are these guys “independent”enough to endorse or talk about their product? If we haven’t looked that company up to see what they’re about should we even cover what they’re doing? The new Friend or Foe series is here to help with those questions. This is where we will have coverage of questionable companies and people in regards to independence with unquestionably good ideas or philosophies we should know about. We’ll leave it up to you to make up your own mind.
With that said here comes GINA . If you can’t acknowledge that BMW is on to, well… something then you might want to come back tomorrow when we’ll only be talking about companies we know for sure are independent.
If you don’t know, just about a “billion” stores have opened in the last 5 to 10 years that are usually labeled street or urban. On one end of the spectrum you have stores that sale Shawn John, Phat Farm, Apple Bottom (oh wow, my stomach is getting quisy) and on the other end you have stores that open and only sale their own brand ( The Hundreds, Supreme, Alife, Huf). I have my preferences but I think we can all say that now days it’s difficult to bring the kind of flavor that can’t be denied in a retail location and shopping experence.
Enter Attic. Open since Jan ‘07 I’ve been checking for them for a long time and although I’ve never said anything about them before it’s not because they don’t deserve it. So why now? Well… they just get it. They have made an experience that can’t be matched. Having your own vision helps and not wanting to be like everyone else takes it to that extra level. But hey don’t listen to me take a look for yourself. (pics below) If you’re in LA make sure you go you won’t be disappointed.
Viciton:ary makes some of the best design books on the market hands down. Their newest piece for your consumption is the Simply Pattern book, part of their ever popular Simply Series. This books focused on how patterns are used in our every day lives not just as pieces of fashion work. They use interiors, products, and installations to illustrate their point.

Chromeo has been at the for front of dance floor 80’s revival sounds for some time now. Their recent accent to MTV status has them ready to follow in the steps of Gnarls Barkley but remember that good music trandsends all. Besides that their label would never allow them to not give love to us independent loving freaks. Enjoy their new video Fancy Footwork.
Now this is “Independent Business” at it’s best. Bug Labs has created a small linux based computer. Translation: It’s a small computer that doesn’t run the mac OS or windows. It’s made that way on purpose so that we “the consumers” can take the gadget to places the designers would never have thought of. Who knew a customizable computer. They explain it best.
“BUG helps you explore the realm of personalized devices and applications, and find ways to solve many of the problems current gadgets can’t.
For example, with BUG, you can easily assemble and program a GPS + digital camera device that automatically publishes geo-tagged photos as a web service. Integrating with an online photo-sharing service like Flickr is only a few more lines of code away, and now you have your own real-time, connected traffic-enabled mobile Webcam!
The platform is designed to enable a collaborative development environment. BUGnet, our online community, is tied in directly to the BUG SDK, which allows developers to connect with others, share information, and jointly build products or services.”
Timbuk2 rarely disappoints ad I’d say this time they have overdone it. We know there will be lines and over-flowing reorders so make sure you get to the Timbuk2 site and get on that list.
“Built to fit the MacBook Air™ like an ultraglove. Don’t let the simple design fool you. We’ve overbuilt the hell out of this sleeve and spec’d earth friendly materials throughout. Ultrasonic seam welds use a notoxic glue, the durable exterior softshell fabric (just like the stuff in mountaineering jackets) & low pile brushed fleece lining are made from post-consumer pop bottles (PET). The buttons are made of Poly PET and the string can be reused to tie your shoe in a pinch. Who could even THINK of putting a MacBook Air™ in anything less?“
I thought we would introduce you to a site that I love and don’t get to use much but figure it’s only a matter of time before some of your favorite people (wink wink) are doing the same thing. With that said if you’re in LA subscribe and find out the daily happenings (kc! you may want to add to this if you know someone else). These guys know what’s up for sure. They serve a daily that doesn’t disappoint. Check them out!
